Hataraki Man

When you like your work, you would do anything to get it done. You would sacrifice the time with your beloved ones, just to make sure you do a great job. That's the reason people workaholic.

Matsukata Hiroko is one of them. This 29 yrs old editor is called Hataraki Man (Workaholic guy) by her colleagues. She would chase a story even though it means she should cancel date with her 4-year-boyfriend.

The dorama based on manga with the same title. I personally don't like the art of the manga. It seems like the mangaka has a lot of things in mind so he/she create such a scribbling. But, they choose the right actress to play the protagonist. She really looks like the drawing.

There's also her junior, Tanaka. He's a self centered, smart guy (It's played by MOCOMICHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII…..you remember him, right? He's the guy who stars Tokyo Tower 2007). He actually desire to work in fashion magazine like Hugo, but he's transferred to Jidai, a magazine for middle age men. It was hard for him to like the job because he thinks all the story just gossips.

Mayu Nagisa and Kobutan are also Matsukata's colleagues. Mayu admires her so much for her success to bring every story into a big fuss. Kobutan loves sexy models; he's in charge of sexy rubrics in the magazine.

Competing with Matsukata, Sugawara is also a workaholic. A 35 years single guy who looks like a thief is in charge of celebrity gossip. He's just like paparazzi. He hates Matsukata because she's strong like a man.

Having such a big urge for work, Matsukata often gives her boyfriend a jealousy. He's a workaholic too, but it seems like her star covers the entire universe. Being with such strong and successful girlfriend makes him desperate. They end up separated, even though they still love each other.

Personally, I bought the DVD because of Mocomichi. He's such a cool guy. And obviously he's not trapped in cool guy's role (you know…..like Matsumoto Jun and Shun Oguri). The first time I saw him was in Gokusen 2. Playing Takeda, a bad boy who has kind heart, Mocomichi captivated my heart.. He stopped believe in teacher since his junior high teacher accuse him for doing thing he didn't.

After that, I saw him on dorama Densha Otoko. He became the rebellious child who ran away from home, but still maintain good contact with his sister.

Then, I bought Tokyo Tower(2007). He played Masaya Nakagawa, the protagonist from autobiography with the same title. Masaya was not an independent person. He always late and would do anything to get in to a group. It's so funny how Moco played such a unreliable man.

Hataraki man actually a serious one. I can hardly laugh, except for the last part where 5 middle age worker dancing behind the star. The song is pretty funny, too. It sounds traditional but cool.

Even though it's hard to smile, I found many messages (some make me cry). In Japan, it is not "normal" for a woman to work so hard as man. Women are supposed to be married and taking care of the family. Married is insurance for woman, they say. So, in many occasion, woman are asked to prioritized personal life than work things.

I really thing woman should work, so she knows the real world. Can you imagine housewife who stuck in house? What do they usually do? They're gossiping. They don't know how the world goes lately. They cut the connection with personal growth and sink in wasting circle. How do you expect that kind of women to teach the children well?

Anyway, scientifically speaking, there was an experiment that shows how women can do multitasking better than men. It means women can do many jobs at the same time. So, it won't be so difficult for women to work while taking care of the family. Talk about my mother. When me and brother (we're twin) were still baby, she continue her study to pursue bachelor degree. She was also working as civil servant at day, too. I think she has raised us well. Yeah, we're becoming more independent cause she would leave us for day long to work. That's a good part right?

I know she did that for us. Achieving higher education means achieving more welfare.

So, at the top of everything, giving the best try for our part means grateful. Matsukata is grateful for her work, that's why she enjoys it, and she works hard for it. My mother, too. She's grateful for all the bless she gets in the family, that's why she works hard to make the ends meet.
